Mechanical Engineering Department (MED)

Introduction
Mechanical Engineering Department (MED) is one of the major departments at the Politeknik Tuanku Sultanah Bahiyah, Kulim Kedah. MED is headed by Mr Alias Bin Umar, operates with the support of 59 lecturers who are trained, experienced and have expertise in their respective fields and assisted by three non-academic support staffs. As one of the academic departments in PTSB, MED provides a plethora of opportunities to the students to learn by organizing many interesting activities and programmes. Students will possess entrepreneurial skills, practice good work ethics, be able to promote good morality and behaviour, and continuously enhance their knowledge and skills that will allow them to make tangible contributions and meet new technical challenges. The graduates will communicate and interact responsibly and be able to contribute effectively as a team member. They will also be adaptable to new changes at the workplace.


Programs Offered

  • Diploma In Mechanical Engineering - DKM:
    This programme provides students with the knowledge and skills in mechanical engineering field that can be applied to a broad range of careers. This programme provides theoretical classes as well as carries out practical work in laboratories and workshops. This programme offers courses such as Mechanical Workshop Practice, Workshop Technology, Computer Aided Design, Thermodynamics, Engineering Mechanics, Mechanics of Machines, Pneumatic and Hydraulic, Mechanical Component and Maintenance, Maintenance Engineering and Management and other elective course that student must to pass it.

  • Diploma In Mechanical Engineering (Manufacturing) – DTP:
    DTP provide an overview of engineering in industrial manufacturing processes and the use of the latest machines in manufacturing industry. Students should attend lectures, tutorials and practical task at workshop and laboratory. Besides, they have to complete several core courses such as Manufacturing System, Manufacturing Workshop Practice, Material Technology, Manufacturing Computer Aided Design, Quality Control, Industrial Automation and Robotic, Manufacturing Economy, Manufacturing Control, Quality Control and Jigs & Fixtures Design as well as some core courses and other elective courses.

  • Diploma In Mechatronics Engineering - DEM:
    The program of DEM covers various disciplines and theoretical in mechanical engineering and electrical engineering and electronics. This program provides a several basic in mechanical engineering with specialization in mechatronics. Specialization courses for this program are Mechatronics Devices, Microprocessor and Microcontroller System, Programmable Logic Controller, Industrial Automation and Robotics, Computer Programming, Power Transmission Mechanism beside other core and elective courses.
