Academic System

Introduction

Polytechnics of Ministry of Higher Education have implemented the academic system according to semester. This semester system has been used widely in all the higher institution centre.

Academic Year

Academic Year in Polytechnics of Ministry of Higher Education is divided into 2 semesters:

  • Semester of June
  • Semester of December

Course Plan

Semester system is a flexible system. It allows students to plan their credit hours and the duration of the program based on their ability. Students also can choose their own courses in order to focus on their field of study.

Relation of Courses in a Semester

Every course learnt in a semester is assumed as a separated course. Students are to pass the courses that they carry out. Should they failed any of the courses, they only can repeat the course that they failed so that it will not affect the other courses.

Continuous Assessment

In semester system, the students’ assessment is done continuously throughout the semester such as:

  • Quiz
  • Test
  • Practical
  • Tutorial
  • Other Assessment

It means that the students’ assessment does not only depend on the final exam but also other assessments.

Industrial Training

Industrial Training (LI) is one of the conditions in KPTs Polytechnics Curriculum that must be completed by all the students before achieving Diploma. The aim of Industrial Training (LI) is to expose the students about the real working environment and to relate the understanding of theory and practical learnt. The duration of Industrial Training (LI) is for one semester and the students are to go to the LI in their fourth semester.

Notes: Diploma graduates of polytechnics and students of Bridging Program are executed from the Industrial Training (LI).

Academic Advisor

Academic Advisor plays the important role in guiding the students to plan and implement the learning session. Students will need the advice from their Academic Advisor throughout the semester. The Academic Advisor will observe all the students’ achievement under his / her supervision.

The duration of study for the programmes of Diploma is about six(6) semesters or minimum of 3 years.
